"It's a long journey to London's West End...but Stan and Ollie have just taken the first brave step ..... this story of the stage career of Laurel and Hardy has something that can be described in one word - potential" |
The Stage and Television Today
(from the review of the professional run in Manchester) |
| "...as a comedy this is a cracking show...the show is both accurate and entertaining...The audience loved it..."
|
The Advertiser |
| "Hey, how is everybody? It's me again, just writing to tell the cast of "Take A Smile," AWESOME JOB. I loved the show and so did my Dad and everyone else in the audience (unless they were dead)! It was funny and serious at the same time, and it was acted out very well. That last song really got me, I was on the verge of tears, because it's perfectly fine for boys to cry at very sad and/or happy moments. Y'all are really lucky to have been the first people ever to perform the show in America, I really wish I could've done it." 2006 Harlem High Drama's Dreambook http://www.harlemdrama.com |

| THE CONCEPT: This show brings Laurel and Hardy back to life on stage to perform their own biographical musical - "Bio what?" says Stan. They try so hard to make the work with the inevitable result! Historically, Stan Laurel went from England to America along with Chaplin in Fred Karno's Music Hall troupe. Very soon, Stan is paired with Oliver Hardy and history is made. The musical moves on through their lives. Stan fails to tame his fiery girlfriend. Film success follows. The pair receive an Oscar. 25 years pass, and still together. The war years, a final stage tour and the sad loss of Ollie brings us all back to reality with a bump. Laughter, laughter and tears. |
